Dr Nigel Paine’s new book shows the power of unlocking collective wisdom
Paine’s latest book explores the concept of organizational learning and how empowering workers to learn together can have a transformational impact on them individually and the organization as a whole.
Dr Nigel Paine’s latest book, The Great Reset: Unlocking the Power of Organizational Learning, explains how organizational learning is the greatest opportunity for learning to support organizational transformation. The research and case study-led book shows that unlocking learning across the organization leads to profound change and success for many organizations.
The book, published by The LDA Press, is based on three premises.
- Togetherness. People are happier and more productive when they work together, help each other, and can admit to their mistakes and learn from them and work on eliminating mistakes.
- The organizational brain. Much like the connections in our brains make individuals smarter and resilient, how well and how frequently people are connected makes organizations smarter and more able to solve challenges faster.
- The external environment. The better an organization plugs into its external environment the faster it can react to changes in that environment. This helps manage turbulence and uncertainty more effectively.
Charles Jennings, Partner, Strategy and Performance, Tulser Global, comments: “Nigel Paine knows organizational learning inside out. The Great Reset: Unpacking the Power of Organizational Learning fills a desperately needed gap at a time when old approaches to building organizational capability, resilience, and excellence no longer work. In today’s world, teams are the atomic units that drive organizational success. Nigel Paine steps beyond the usual perimeter of individual learning and into team and organizational learning as the engines of success. In this book, Paine sets a new benchmark for leadership, HR, and learning professionals to work towards.”
The book includes a range of tools including the five values of organizational learning and Paine’s Dimensions of Organizational Learning model. It also includes a range of case studies, research and practical strategies to introduce this approach to the organization.
Matt Richter, President, The Thiagi Group and Co-Director of The Learning Development Accelerator, comments, “Yes I am biased. I have had the utter privilege to support Nigel throughout the writing of this book, and nonetheless, I revel in reading it over and over. Nigel has taken us on a journey. We meet various characters (thought leaders and practitioners), we go to various places around the world in the case studies, and we get plenty of theory and research. But most importantly, we get a practical set of principles and guidelines for developing, supporting, and fostering organizational learning. I am so grateful to Nigel for this book biases aside!””
Dr Nigel Paine adds, “The book offers a big-picture view of why focusing on organizational learning is vital if you want to create more agile and responsive organizations. It also explains how to take the first steps in this direction and the impact those changes will have on morale, motivation, and engagement. The book is evidence-based and of practical use for all those working on the people side of organizations.
