New elearning model for Dartmoor National Park Authority

Dartmoor National Park Authority is accessing eLearning solutions provided by Learning Nexus via the Teignbridge e-Academy who operate as a learning consortium.  The courses have provided an opportunity to easily and effectively train staff who are posted over multiple sites making ease of access a key point in delivering training.

The Teignbridge e-Academy launched in October 2011, is a consortium established by Teignbridge District Council offering top quality training to organisations. Working in partnership with Learning Nexus the academy developed a brand new model for providing many eLearning solutions.  The e-Academy gives access to over 200 courses, a cloud-based authoring tool, and a user-friendly Learning Management System. It is an innovative solution in the current economic climate, which helps to make a limited budget stretch further, for the most return on investment.

Dartmoor National Park Authority based in Bovey Tracey, Devon has been involved in offering eLearning via the Academy for just over a year and has found it extremely beneficial. The training offered suits the Authority as it is financially viable and very flexible in how it is delivered.  Uptake has been steady but has been encouraged via a variety of approaches which have included; working closely with managers to highlight benefits for their teams and also offering the popular “lunch and learn” sessions where employees are provided with the opportunity to try the eLearning for themselves.

The introduction of mandatory training in Diversity, Data Protection and DSE has also influenced growth in uptake. Employees are engaging with the courses more after having had the experience of undertaking some training because they realise how effective, easy and accessible it is. The Authority is now also offering several language courses to employees which are becoming increasingly popular.

Neil White Head of HR for Dartmoor National Park Authority said about working with eLearning: “Dartmoor National Park Authority is really enjoying working with the Teignbridge e-Academy and Learning Nexus to offer eLearning.  Providing eLearning has enabled the efficient delivery of training and it is our hope to grow the uptake of eLearning in the next year.”
