On Friday the 6th of July, First Wessex Housing Association was the proud recipient of the British American Tobacco Award for Commitment to Education and Training at the South Coast Business Awards 2012.

According to The Daily Echo, one of the organisers of the event, the South Coast Business Awards aim to reward the best in local business and recognise the achievements of companies and individuals across the Solent region, as well as boost standards, spur on competition and champion the sterling contribution firms make to the local economy.

First Wessex, as well as the other 3 finalists in the category, was required to prove that it met a comprehensive list of conditions, initially having to demonstrate how its commitment has made a difference and enabled staff and residents to develop new skills, perform better, make a bigger contribution and thrive.  Once they were shortlisted for the award, they had to carry out a short 10 minute presentation at their premises on the 12th of June, where they presented on how an investment in a variety of training and development initiatives, including e-learning has brought success, and how its people development strategies have improved performance and created a committed, motivated and effective workforce.

"First Wessex understands in these tough times, developing people is even more of an investment. We need to breed innovation, talent and capability".

Having been chosen as its e-learning provider only a year ago, Learning Nexus commend First Wessex on its commitment to staff development, and is proud to have been a part of its success in this category.
