Announcing the 2014 Learning Awards winners
The learning community’s top organisations and outstanding individuals gathered together in London last night (6th February) to celebrate the 18th annual Learning Awards.
A stellar showcase of L&D excellence was presented last night (6 February 2014) at The Learning Awards 2014, which celebrates and honours the best of the best in the learning sector.
With a record number of submissions from individuals and organisations from across the globe, the winners were selected from a competitive field of entrants, all of which demonstrated exceptional vision and depth in providing learning solutions with a proven business impact. The Learning and Performance Institute assembled a collection of industry visionaries to form the independent judging panel, chaired by Nigel Paine, Colin Steed and Alan Bellinger, who combed through hundreds of submissions to select the best, which we present to you below.
Popular British newsreader and television presenter, Natasha Kaplinsky hosted the event, which took place at the 5-star Dorchester Hotel, on London’s Park Lane. The ceremony was filled with international figureheads from the global learning community, who joined the awards finalists to celebrate outstanding success across 14 award categories.
The standout categories included Learning Provider of the Year, which was won by City & Guilds Kineo, whilst the Learning Team of the Year, dominated by a host of well-known names, including AMP Horizons, Dell, Civil Service Learning, Napp Pharmaceutical and Cornwall Fire & Rescue, went to PwC. The Learning Technologies Award was won by Virtual Ashridge for its outstanding example of the way in which Learning Technologies can transform an organisation’s business model. The coveted CLO of the year was won by HC-One’s Alison Innes-Farquhar, and the Learning Professional of the Year went to Hasina Miah of Roche Products.
This year the ceremony presented its Colin Corder Award for Services to Learning to Martin Bean, Vice Chancellor of The Open University. Martin is the fifth person to lead the institution in the four decades since its creation in 1969, in which time it has provided quality, innovative, accessible education to millions. Martin has more than 25 years’ experience working at the intersection between education and technology globally.
In his opening address LPI Chief Executive Colin Steed said: “With a record of almost 200 entries this year, to be a finalist is in itself an outstanding achievement. I hope that your organisations’ are proud of you and the real impact you have had on the performance of the business. Tonight, there are no winners and losers. You are all ‘the best of the best’.”
Steed went on to run the LPI Charity Auction in aid of Dreamflight, a small charity who take seriously ill or disabled children to Disneyland Florida each year. The LPI has raised over £300,000 for children’s charities since the Auction was launched in 1999.
