Innovative Open Badges feature launched for Totara LMS: White paper

Learning NewsWebanywhere Limited

Rewarding employees for their achievements is about to become easier than ever with a new way to digitally recognise their work.

Mozilla, the creators of the Firefox web browser - used by over 25% of Internet users worldwide - has developed Open Badges in partnership with the MacArthur Foundation. The Open Badges technology is a new feature available for the latest version of Totara LMS, the learning platform for corporates available from Webanywhere. Open Badges allows businesses to digitally award their staff for specific skills or achievements.

Containing ‘metadata’ that includes the date of the award, the issuer and details of the achievement, Open Badges can be posted online by either the employee or the employer to help illustrate the skillset for each individual employee.

A new free guide to Open Badges within Totara LMS is now available from Webanywhere, explaining how the badges work, how they fit into the workplace and what this could mean for employers in the future.

The guide covers how Open Badges:

  • Capture learning achievements
  • Provide signalling for managers to spot talent pools
  • Motivate a workforce
  • Support innovation
  • Build on employee reputation
  • Create an organisational community

Totara LMS and Open Badges are available now from Webanywhere, a Platinum Totara LMS Partner. Companies currently using learning platforms provided by Webanywhere include Zara, Dominos Pizza, The Medical Protection Society and the NHS.

Conor Gilligan, Head of Operations at Webanywhere commented: “Harvard Business Review recognise Open Badges as one of the top technologies to watch in 2013. Recognising achievement within your organisation has just become easier which will help executives identify their talent pools and reward their competent employees. This is yet another game-changer for corporate e-learning from Moodle and Totara LMS.”

More information about how businesses can benefit from this innovative and forward-thinking development is available in Webanywhere's free guide: Reward your staff for learning - An introduction to the new Open Badges function to Totara LMS.
