Transition delivers second phase of e-learning about consumer protection

Transition Associates is working with a financial advice service to build efficient e-learning that will train and equip their advisers.

The Consumer Credit Act (CCA) is an Act of Parliament created to provide protection for consumers when borrowing money. The first four of six e-learning courses about the CCA have been built and delivered by Transition Associates.

The financial advice service that Transition is working with helps people to tackle their debts and manage their finances well. It does this through money advisers, who are trained with courses like the ones Transition is building.

“The work that our client does is really important,” says Ashleigh Hull of Transition. “They’re helping people to understand their rights, and to act wisely. Working with them means being a part of all that they do - it’s incredibly satisfying knowing that what we produce will be helping so many people.”

The four courses that have been delivered so far were built in two development cycles. Project manager David Bowden says: “We’ve got a great model. We’re building two courses at a time, staggering the second two weeks behind the first. It means we’re working on two courses at once, but not trying to create two storyboards or run two pilots at the same time. It’s been highly efficient and very effective.

“The courses themselves have been a bit of a challenge. The content is, unsurprisingly, very dry - so one of our jobs has been to make it come to life. We’ve made the course very visually interesting, and added interactions to engage the learners. Our client has called it ‘A very pleasing result in storyboarding what is essentially a dry topic. Transition took time to absorb and ensure it understood the content, and queried anything which was unclear. They were then able to translate that learning into workable scenarios that enhance the learning experience.’ Our efforts have resulted in very positive feedback from the students themselves, who have given high marks when asked for their opinion on the design, content and relevance of the courses.”

Transition are about to begin their third and final development cycle. The first two courses are already live and being used, and the third and fourth courses also went live in the past few weeks. “The feedback has been very encouraging. Our clients are pleased with everything - the look and feel, the way we adhered to timescales, the project management, our communication throughout - and are looking forward to continuing to work with us. That’s everything we’d want to hear from our clients, really!”
