Flypaper enables complete novices to produce an impressive project, in a relatively short space of time, and without difficulty. It’s included as standard with Lectora’s Inspire course authoring software but can be also used as a standalone application. The series of Flypaper video tutorials from Transition Associates walks viewers through the basics of using it.

Interactivity is crucial in e-learning. For non-professionals, creating animations, games and other forms of interactivity can be a daunting or impossible task. But Flypaper changes that, as Transition Associates has discovered.

Transition had some static learning material about medieval knights and how they dressed for battle. Using Flypaper, it has converted this material into an interactive learning experience; and in doing so has greatly enhanced the learning, making it more engaging for the user. Flypaper is template-based, with drag and drop components which you can choose from to gradually build Flash functionality into a game or activity - it’s incredibly simple to use. It meant that Transition didn’t have to employ a Flash animator to do the job, and the simple, user-friendly interface meant that it didn’t have to waste valuable time learning how to use the software.

Bill Webb, a designer at Transition, headed up this project. The novice Flypaper user said he found it “very intuitive. Even without an expert hand to guide me I got all I needed from the very clear Help section and the mini tutorials. I feel very pleased that I was able to produce some Flash-based interactive learning without any training or programming knowledge.”

Bill used the knowledge he gained in his project with Flypaper to create the video tutorials. Transition’s passion for developing e-learning and enabling others to do the same has led it to add this asset to the range of training it offers.

Transition also provides a Flypaper training course for e-learning developers and designers who want to get even more out of this excellent product. The course includes teaching on the Flypaper interface, using templates, working with elements and components, and building a project from scratch - from the very first stages through to publishing. It’s a day-long classroom-based course and is best suited to beginner Flypaper users. More information can be found on Transition's website.
