Transition helps organisations in the shift towards mobile learning

Leading Lectora supplier Transition unveils a complete mobile learning package, enabling organisations to adopt 'learning on the go' - with a 50% discount until the end of December.

With the advent of more powerful handheld devices such as the iPhone, iPad and Android smartphones and tablets, organisations are starting to wake up to the possibilities of mobile learning (m-learning). These low-cost devices are enjoying rapid adoption - and the possibilities of learning that can be truly taken anywhere is highly appealing.

But the problem, according to Transition's Miles Corbett, is that learning developers and learning departments aren't geared up to take advantage of this shift in computing. "Only a couple of years ago," says Corbett, "m-learning was little more than a pipedream, because mobile devices weren't actually powerful enough to deliver a rich learning experience. The arrival of iOS and Android devices has turned that around."

Ready to exploit this shift to mobile devices is Lectora Inspire and CourseMill - e-learning authoring and management tools which already have the capability to deploy m-learning solutions.

To help organisations step up to m-learning, Transition is offering around 50% off the cost of a special 'm-learning bundle' - comprising Lectora Inspire, five smartphone templates and a copy of the CourseMill learning management system. "That's a saving of almost £12,000," says Corbett, "delivering a solution that takes m-learning from development, through to deployment and measurement."

Lectora Inspire, the latest version of the world-leading e-learning authoring tool, provides developers with easy access to these new learning platforms. "For Lectora Inspire, choosing a deployment platform is straightforward: it's what it's built to do - whether that's for the iPhone, iPad, or Android."

Lectora Inspire is a fully integrated e-learning and m-learning development environment - shipping with special versions of Camtasia (for screen video capture), Snagit (screen stills capture) and Flypaper (Flash creation, without Flash). "It's quite literally all e-learning and m-learning developers need," says Corbett.

But the development toolset is only part of the story - organisations also need a learning management system, which is where CourseMill comes in. Created by Trivantis, the developers of Lectora Inspire, CourseMill provides a simple way for organisations to deploy, track and measure learning - even on mobile devices.

"Learning doesn't have to be tied to the classroom or even the PC anymore," says Corbett. "And tablet computers especially can take interactive learning to a whole new level."

The Lectora m-learning bundle is available now, from Transition. The discount is only available until the end of December 2010.
