UK Companies are slowly recovering from a slump in employee creativity and resources, but it's not down to buying in new and exciting people, writes The Performance Solution, its down to UK companies being brave enough to invest in the people.

Businesses in other countries always seem to find a reason to invest. British firms are good at finding excuses not to, whether it be the growing burden of company pensions, UK stock market or rising taxes and red tape.

According to a recent article in The Times (2006), businesses' investment rose sharply in the mid 1990's but fell flat between 2001 and 2004. Speculation led to marketers believing that companies had spent too much ensuring that they did not fall foul of the 'millennium bug' or were halting investment due to other reasons.

With the recent heat explosion that has hit the British Isles, employers are acutely aware that office productivity falls by nearly a quarter in the heat, with 75% of respondents complaining that the work environment stifled their creativity and ability to get the job done (Office Angels Research, 2006).

Creativity is the key to getting the most out of employees, which is supported by a former contestant on The Apprentice and Jo Camerson, former head of training at MG Rover. Encouraging creativity in the work place results in more confident employees, increase in productivity and sales, increase in staff retention and happier working relationships.
