New Knutsford training centre brings security apprenticeships to the Northwest
The private security sector’s skills body, Skills for Security, has opened a new training centre in Cheshire, bringing its security apprenticeships to the Northwest for the first time.
Skills for Security has just opened the doors to its new training centre in Knutsford. The move brings the organisation’s apprenticeship programmes within easier reach of people in the North of England.
The new centre provides training on Skills for Security’s apprenticeships, as well as space to provide bespoke and specialist courses to the security sector.
“The key trade apprenticeship for the security industry is the Fire, Emergency and Security Systems apprenticeship,” says Skills for Security’s chief executive Peter Sherry. “But we’re keen to encourage security firms to boost their skills in other areas, so they can deliver a great experience across the board. For this reason, our new Knutsford training centre also delivers apprenticeships in team leadership and customer services – helping security organisations raise their people’s skills levels throughout the organisation, not just at the point of service delivery.”
An important part of Skills for Security’s role is to encourage people to forge a career in the security sector. “The UK’s security sector is worth around £6 billion,” says Sherry, “employing over half a million people. It’s a sector with well above average growth – around 17% last year. It’s a brilliant industry in which to start a new career – and we’re here to help.”
The new training centre, which boasts state-of-the-art facilities, is now up and running, and already providing training to new apprentices.
