Skills for Security is a not-for-profit company set up by the private security sector to invest in skills for itself. Its role is to help improve organisations’ skills in the most cost-effective way possible. Skills for Security offers training, specialist services, information, advice and guidance to employers, employees and trainers in the private security sector. Working closely with employers, its mission is to improve both the skills and standards of professionalism in the security industry, by providing access to high-quality training courses and qualifications.

Like many sectors, the UK’s private security sector has a need to continually improve its skills in order to remain competitive and relevant in an ever-changing world. Our role is to help organisations to devise, plan, budget for, implement and measure skills-development programmes and apprenticeships. This can include helping them to use funds set aside by the Apprenticeship Levy to establish their own learning academy.
We also provide, either directly or through partners, a range of specialist services to help make organisations within the sector more compliant, effective and profitable.

Governance

Skills for Security is governed by a non-executive board whose role is to guide, advise and monitor the work of the executive directors.

Employers

Skills for Security offers employers in the security sector help identifying and sourcing the most relevant security training courses for them. This includes courses which are eligible for funding. We also provide information about security apprenticeships and qualifications – and help with conducting skills-needs analysis, structuring job specifications, designing training programmes and providing expert information advice and guidance around skills issues.

Employees

The security sector offers many great career opportunities. Skills for Security helps people to find the best security training courses, enabling them to build their skills and develop their careers. We can also advise on security qualifications, including those linked to the Security Industry Authority (SIA) licensing regulations.

Training providers

Skills for Security’s accreditation scheme enables training providers to more successfully market their courses – with the Skills for Security Authorised Service Provider badge assuring customers that their courses meet our quality standards. We work with a select range of training providers, not only accrediting them to deliver training but also to connect them to business opportunities.
