Rethinking learning in the modern workplace

Telford, UKLearning NewsPebblePad

Trailblazing personal learning technology specialists PebblePad will be teaming up with modern workplace learning guru Jane Hart at Learning Technologies 2017 conference. Together, they'll be proposing a new approach to modern workplace learning and discussing why the LMS isn’t best placed to support it.

“Some companies now recruit for “learnability” – the desire and ability to constantly learn new things. From my own research I can see that the learning habits of individuals who exhibit high learnability are already changing,” said Jane Hart, Director of the Centre for Modern Workplace Learning.

“Indeed, they no longer rely on being trained by their company or taking online courses to move forward, but rather they recognise that they learn in many different ways for and at work. I call this new way of learning – Modern Professional Learning.”

“Placing the learner at the centre of the experience, and supporting learning wherever and whenever it happens has been central to our thinking since the company’s inception more than 12 years ago, which is why we were so excited with Jane’s concept of Modern Professional Learning,” said Shane Sutherland, Commander in Chief at PebblePad.

“We know this kind of learning approach presents significant challenges for the traditional LMS, which tends to remain focused on courses and content rather than learners and learning. Our technology supports the multitude of ways users learn - online, offline, anytime, anywhere, through interactions with peers and day-to-day experiences. Therefore, it comes as little surprise that we are now seeing an increasing number of organisations looking to us to help them support modern workplace learning.”

The shift in employee learning habits is prompting rethinks in many L&D departments as organisations look for new ways to keep their people up to date and support a contingent workforce.

In two seminars at Learning Technologies 2017, Jane Hart, Director of the Centre for Modern Workplace Learning, and PebblePad CEO Shane Sutherland will propose a new approach for modern workplace learning. The seminars are a must-attend for anyone wanting to learn more about why today's workforce requires a very different approach to learning and a very different kind of technology to support it.
