Chasing Ghosts in Global Education: PlagScan Presents New Ways to Ensure Equal Education Standards at the OEB Conference 2018.

Copying has never been easier in our modern times and students can get away with duplicating their assignments in their academic careers. With PlagScan it is our sacred mission to prevent that and safeguard the quality of education and reducing current inequalities. That's why we are chasing ghostwriters: we are developing a new technology which could determine students writing style.

Wikipedia, open access journals, ghostwriting services: It has never been easier for students to cheat through their academic careers. More and more studies in the last years have revealed confessions from students, who admitted to having cheated on their academic papers. The shocking trend does not only hurt the cheating students’ critical thinking and writing ability but also damages the overall quality of degrees and education.

The plagiarism detection tool PlagScan has devoted its mission to safeguard the future of education and foster academic and scientific work. The dedicated PlagScan team will be visiting the OEB Conference on Dec. 5 – 7 to raise awareness about the current inequalities in education and offer a solution to create an impartial and fair education standard for all.

“Not only the reputation of single institutions and education departments are currently at stake but also the quality of education as a whole,” said Markus Goldbach, CEO of PlagScan. “Cheating students get away with their wrongdoings and earn degrees just like their hard-working peers. This is not only unjust but also releases unqualified workers into the workforce.”

Injustices in education have been a persistent issue that PlagScan has been trying to solve. In many cases, instructors only investigate student papers upon suspicion, which aids many students to get away with stolen content. By automating a plagiarism search on academic institutions, all student papers are equally checked for duplicated content – regardless of the student’s background or previous academic work.

Furthermore, PlagScan is currently developing a stylometry tool, which will analyze students’ writing to determine deviations in their writing styles. This groundbreaking feature will help to detect content, which had been written by someone else. In the age of a booming ghostwriting industry, PlagScan will soon be able to identify purchased papers from writing services.

“The new stylometry feature will be a huge stepping stone to help institutions identify individual writing,” Goldbach said. “If you want to learn more about it, please don’t hesitate to speak with us at the OEB at stand number C10.”

The OEB Conference takes place in Berlin, 5-7 December.
