Tata Interactive Systems develops 2D animation series on Indian mythology being televised on Cartoon Network
Tata Interactive Systems develops a 2D animation series, based on famous Indian mythological stories from the Amar Chitra Katha comics, that is being aired on the childrens' channel Cartoon Network.
Tata Interactive Systems (TIS), a global learning and animation solutions provider has been working with ACK Media on creating 2D animation series based on the evergreen stories of the Amar Chitra Katha comics. The series, spread over 26 episodes of 22 minutes each, is being aired on the TV channel, Cartoon Network.
ACK Media owns some of India's most-loved brands including Amar Chitra Katha, Tinkle, Karadi Tales and well-known proprietary characters like Suppandi. Amar Chitra Katha (or ACK) comics, founded in 1967, are one of India's largest selling comic books, with over 90 million copies sold in 20 Indian languages. ACK Media approached TIS with the requirement for an animated series on famous characters from Indian mythology and history. ACK Media provided the storyboards and character references for the animation while TIS was given the responsibility of bringing to life the characters through fresh poses and beautiful backgrounds. The animation and post-production were handled by TIS.
According to Manisha Mohan, Head - Design and Animation at TIS, "Our animation team was used to delivering web and CD quality animation so far. Moving to TV quality animation was a challenging and exciting journey for us. We were also able to leverage our inherent skills in character design and background creation on this production. We hope that audiences young and old enjoy watching the series."
Four episodes from the series have already been aired and the coming weekends promise an interesting line-up of stories, bringing to life, various Indian mythological characters.
Savita Pai, Executive Producer of ACK animated series says, "We approached Tata Interactive because of their ability to deliver large projects and their proven animation capabilities. Matching ACK's creative storytelling skills with TIS' process-oriented approach has resulted in some good animated Amar Chitra Katha tales. Together with Cartoon Network, we hope to bring an entertaining and memorable cartoon series to the children of today."
"We are a process- and systems-driven organization and we used our experience to design an efficient process to manage this project without curbing the creative abilities of the team. In large projects, it is critical to devise innovative ways of working so as to maintain the desired quality in a cost-effective manner. Our suggestions during animatics and staging helped to cut cost and time to manage the scope of production," adds Rajesh Khandagale, Head - Strategy Implementation, TIS.
