Tata Interactive Systems (TIS), the India-based global developer of custom built e-learning solutions, is continuing to expand its foothold in the UK with the appointment of Wendy Weller-Davies as its UK account director for the Government sector.

Ms Weller-Davies, a well established member of the eLearning Network (ELN), the UK's foremost professional body for users and developers of e-learning, has spent the past 14 years in the e-learning sector - working first for Sanderson CBT and, latterly, for ACT E-learning. She will be concentrating on coordinating TIS's sales and support into the public sector in the UK.

An ISO-9001 certified company, with a reputation for delivering complex, Internet-deployed training programmes on time and within budget, TIS extensively uses Six Sigma techniques and is certified at CMM Level 5 and PCMM Level 5. It is one of only six companies in the world - and the only e-learning provider - to have reached the top level of the Carnegie Mellon University Software Engineering Institute's CMM levels.

"With TIS's emphasis on producing high quality learning content, delivered in a way that adheres to the highest production values, having the TIS badge on any piece of e-learning is a mark of its high quality," said Ms Weller-Davies. "It also signals to buyers that their investment risk is reduced by choosing TIS e-learning content - because TIS's experience in this field significantly reduces any risk of 'failure'.

"Both of these factors - high product quality and reduced investment risk because they are spending public money - are high on the priorities of e-learning buyers in the public sector," she added.

The appointment of Wendy Weller-Davies brings the number of TIS senior staff in the UK to eight: four account managers, including Weller-Davies, who specialise in various market sectors; two senior specialists in instructional design and programme development, and two senior on-site project and programme managers.

Sambit Mohapatra, head of TIS in the UK, commented: "Over the last two years, TIS's business in the UK has grown significantly. To service this level of business, we have taken steps to put in place a full sales, after-sales, technical support and on-site implementation service - and we expect to add to our capacity to serve our growing customer base over the coming months and years."
