Courseware migration service

Learning NewsMPS Interactive Systems

Organisations' reluctance to invest more heavily in e-learning materials can now be overcome, thanks to a remarkable courseware migration service, offered by TATA Interactive Systems (TIS) at this year's Online Learning 2002 Europe Conference and Exhibition (OLLE), being held at the ExCel in London’s Docklands, on 5th and 6th March.

The service, already tried and tested with TIS clients such as Abbey National PLC takes existing learning materials - often in existing computer-based training form - and turns them into courseware materials capable of being delivered online by the latest, state-of-the-art delivery technologies. Moreover, under this service, TIS not only undertakes to migrate any existing learning materials to be delivered - effectively - online, but it will continually update the courseware to allow it to be delivered by whatever new delivery technologies are developed.

Sambit Mohapatra, General Manager of TIS in the UK, commented: "Up to now, many organisations have been wary of committing themselves to any form of computer based or e-learning because of fears that rapidly advancing learning delivery technology could leave them with courseware that was obsolete - thus preventing them from fully realising the return on the investment they had made in that courseware. Some companies have already experienced this - having previously espoused 'non-mainstream' learning delivery technologies such as interactive video or CD-I.

"Understandably, this can make these companies less open to investing in today's leading edge learning delivery technologies, such as online learning.

"A similar service which has been tried and tested for over two years with Barclays Bank PLC continues to look after over 20 individual courses developed by a number of different suppliers over a period of time and makes sure that they are up to date - offering the client peace of mind where advancing technology and changes in their business processes are concerned. The re-use of courseware in an updated format results in considerable cost savings for Barclays Bank PLC.

"mportantly," he continued, "the TIS courseware migration service uses the highest standards of instructional design in the development process. For example, a course that 'works' in the classroom or even when delivered via stand-alone multimedia CD-ROM, will not operate as an efficient piece of learning when simply transferred to an online delivery platform.

"The course must be re-designed and re-presented if it is to be an effective piece of learning in its new delivery environment. TIS developers, who have many years experience of working in this field, are able to ensure that all e-learning materials meet the highest design standards and are able to meet the clients' learning objectives."
