Mediazoo Group Whitepaper Finds the Missing Variable in AI Performance Is Human
New whitepaper by CEO Giles Smith explains why AI investment is yet to show up in business results and names AI cognitive readiness as the next phase of AI transformation. The whitepaper cites PwC and McKinsey research: 56% of CEOs see no revenue or cost gain from AI, and only 37% report any profit impact.
"Buying AI creates capability. People changing the way they work creates value. I believe the missing variable is human." Giles Smith, CEO, Mediazoo Group.
Mediazoo Group has published The AI Performance Gap, a whitepaper by its CEO Giles Smith on why so much AI investment is yet to translate into business performance. The evidence points to a clear gap between AI capability and AI profitability. PwC's latest CEO Survey found that 56% of CEOs have seen neither higher revenue nor lower costs from their AI investment, and only 12% have seen both. McKinsey's State of AI research found that 80% of people say AI has made them more productive, yet only 37% report any impact on profit, and just 6% of organisations qualify as AI high performers.
The paper argues that most organisations have done the first part of AI transformation well. The value depends on a harder second step: people changing how they think, decide and act.
Giles Smith, CEO of Mediazoo Group, says: "I keep hearing the same question in boardrooms: why aren't we seeing more value from the AI we've already bought? People are getting faster, yet businesses aren't necessarily getting better. I've come to believe the missing variable is human, and that's where the next advantage will come from."
The whitepaper sets out three phases of AI transformation: access, skills and now behaviour. It calls the third phase AI cognitive readiness: knowing when to question AI and when to trust it, and having the confidence to change a process when AI makes a better one possible. Drawing on behavioural science from Uncertainty Experts, developed with scientists at UCL, it shows how uncertainty at work becomes behaviour: people hesitate, wait for permission or use new tools to do the same old tasks. It also challenges leaders to measure AI by performance rather than activity.
Mediazoo Group recently launched the Uncertainty & AI Ready Platform Microsoft Marketplace. The platform was partly developed as a direct response to some of the blockers to improved human performance picked up in the whitepaper.
