LINE Communications, a key provider of learning and development solutions to the defence sector, has received an award from the Royal School of Artillery (RSA) for an iPad app that trains troops in the use of Fire Control Orders (FCO) on operation.

LINE was headline sponsor of the prestigious E-Learning Awards in London on 11th November and was nominated for ‘The best use of mobile learning’ category. In collaboration with the RSA LINE created the app for use on the Apple iPad which has improved levels of learner motivation and reduced the overall costs of FCO training.

At the event LINE was honoured with a unique award from the RSA in the form of a 105mm Light Gun shell, polished, engraved and marking the collaboration between LINE and the RSA

It was presented to Nick Barker, the Project Manager for the FCO project, by Major Rich Gill and RMSI Neil Fowler.

Major Rich Gill of D Training says, “Making the shortlist for the E-learning Awards was a fantastic achievement, which clearly demonstrated how effective the blended learning solution for the Fire Control Orders project was. Throughout the project we have been impressed with LINE’s commitment and professionalism in delivering such a high quality solution. In recognition of the dedication of all staff, but particularly Nick Barker, RMSI Neil Fowler presented the team with a token of the appreciation from the Royal Artillery”

Major Rich Gill was keen to stress that he sees this project as the one which really raised the bar for the Army in terms of both an innovative solution but crucially a solution which makes best use of technology in an appropriate way to improve training and realise specific effects.

Nick Barker, LINE Senior Project Manager, says, “The professionalism of all involved on this project, from Major Gill at DTrg through to Mr Fowler at RSA has been palpable. This project really will make a difference to the life of a gunner on the ground in theatre. It's with an immense sense of pride that I received this token of appreciation on behalf of the whole team at LINE who have made the end product so successful”
