LINE Communications, a key provider of learning and development solutions to the defence sector, has been shortlisted in ‘The best use of mobile learning’ category in the 2010 E-Learning Awards.

The shortlisted programme was commissioned by the Royal School of Artillery (RSA) to help train UK troops in the use of Fire Control Orders (FCO) on operation. LINE in collaboration with the RSA created an app for use on the Apple iPad which has improved levels of learner motivation and reduced the overall costs of training in FCO. This transformational training app provides a multiplayer environment for use inside and outside of the classroom and has significantly improved the overall efficiency of training in the subject area. The app was featured in exclusive BBC Radio 1 Newsbeat reports and on the Newsbeat website.

Major Rich Gill, D Training says “This project has generated significant interest internationally. It has been the catalyst for the different Arms and Services Directorates to consider how to they can utilise such a training solution to realise measurable effects.”

Keith Downes, Director and Defence Lead at LINE says “We are delighted to have been shortlisted for this important project which is generating such impressive results for the Royal School of Artillery. There is huge interest in this project across the Ministry of Defence in the UK, and global interest from defence sectors in a range of countries in how mobile learning technologies can be used to increase the motivation to learn, reduce training costs, increase training efficiency and improve levels of skills retention.”

The awards ceremony is to be held at the Marriot Hotel, Grosvenor Square, London on 11th November. More details of the awards can be found here.
