LT 2026: Barcamp explores shift from content to capability
11th Learning Technologies fringe event spotlights AI’s role in moving L&D from content delivery to capability building.
The Learning Technologies Barcamp 2026 brought together learning leaders and practitioners in the pub for an evening of discussion on how AI is reshaping corporate learning. Now in its 11th year, the fringe event focused on a central theme: the shift from content-led learning to capability building.
Held after day one of the Learning Technologies 2026 conference, the barcamp adopted its established rotating table-discussion format.
Across the discussions, a consistent message emerged: AI is accelerating a move away from traditional content delivery towards learning models centred on practice, feedback and reflection. Particpants explored that with AI's ability to generate and distribute content at scale, it is the development of judgement, applied skills and real-world performance that now defines effective learning.
Five table hosts chaired the discussions:
- Idris Fabiyi, Head of Innovation and Technology, BPP School of Technology, Estio Training and Firebrand Training
- Helen Marshall, Tech Academy Lead, Booking.com
- Matt Smith, Head of L&D, Nesta
- Zac Brown, Learning Consultant, HSBC
- Julie Drybrough, Founder, Fuchsia Blue
The event was organised by Martin Couzins, Insights Media and supported by Skillable, which sponsored the evening and enabled the informal setting that characterises the barcamp format.
