Learning with Experts has completed an Innovate UK-backed project with The Mindful Birth Group to develop a digital learning and safety platform for perinatal education, combining expert-led teaching, live online learning and AI-supported sentiment analysis to help improve support for expectant and new mothers.

The 12-month project was supported by Innovate UK through the Biomedical Catalyst programme and brought Learning with Experts’ total Innovate UK grant funding to more than £500,000. It marks the company’s second Innovate UK-backed healthcare innovation project and builds on its growing strategy to use digital learning to support prevention, behaviour change, confidence and better outcomes at scale.

The platform combines The Mindful Birth Group’s specialist antenatal and postnatal education with Learning with Experts’ interactive classroom technology. It includes live-streamed learning, expert-led video, peer discussion, mobile-optimised access and sentiment analysis designed to help identify where learners may need additional support or signposting.

The innovation is intended to support, not replace, human experts. By analysing engagement and language within the learning environment, the platform can help educators and healthcare partners understand where someone may be struggling, disengaged or in need of further support. In future NHS-linked pathways, this kind of learning intelligence could help route people back towards midwives, GPs or face-to-face clinical care where appropriate.

Emiliana Hall, Founder of The Mindful Birth Group, said: “Pregnancy, birth and early parenthood can be transformational, but they can also feel isolating and overwhelming. Our work has always been about giving parents calm, evidence-based education and helping them feel informed, supported and confident. This project with Learning with Experts and Innovate UK has allowed us to explore how that support can be delivered more continuously, using digital learning, community and careful technology to identify when someone may need more human help.”

Elspeth Briscoe, CEO of Learning with Experts, said: “This Innovate UK project has helped us build important new capability at the intersection of expert education, live learning, AI and healthcare. The aim is not to replace clinicians, midwives or educators. It is to support them. By combining trusted perinatal expertise with AI-supported sentiment analysis, we can begin to understand what is happening inside the learning environment: who is engaging, who may be struggling, and where timely human support may be needed.”

Innovate UK has signed off the project’s final grant claim and provided strong feedback on the innovation demonstrated in live streaming and AI-driven sentiment analysis for healthcare applications.

The work now forms part of Learning with Experts’ wider healthcare innovation roadmap, including NHS-linked education programmes, AI-supported learning guidance and sentiment analysis designed to help identify where learners may need additional support, signposting or escalation.
