Employees still searching for everyday workplace terminology
KPI tops UK searches for business acronyms, highlighting continued gaps in workplace business literacy.
'KPI' attracts 60,800 Google searches a month, making it the UK's most searched business acronym. 'DEI', 'GDPR', 'CRM', 'EBITDA' and 'SaaS' also rank among the most searched business terms.
Many of these terms are now commonplace across workplaces rather than specialist business language. Their continued appearance in search rankings suggests employees still need explanations for concepts organisations often assume are understood.
Twenty-six per cent of employees use ChatGPT or Perplexity to explain unfamiliar business terms. Google is the first source of explanations for 62%.
Fifteen per cent of business owners use AI for the same purpose.
Hiscox compiled the rankings from UK Google search volumes covering 500 business acronyms and phrases, surveying 350 employees and 350 business owners in March 2026.
