IDTX Announces Matthew Richter as Opening Keynote Speaker
The Thiagi Group's President and acclaimed L&D thinker will open IDTX 2026 with a session that bridges the science of learning and the science of human motivation.
IDTX is thrilled to announce that Matthew Richter will deliver the opening keynote at its inaugural Evidence Informed Practice conference, taking place on 29th May 2026 in Birmingham.
Richter is President of the Thiagi Group, co-founder and co-organiser of the Learning and Development Accelerator, and a widely respected public speaker and author. He brings with him a reputation for tackling the hard questions in learning and performance with both intellectual rigour and practical clarity; and his opening session, "The Motivation Blueprint: Where Learning Science Meets Human Motivation," promises to do exactly that.
The session takes on a question that will be familiar to every practitioner in the room: why do well-designed training programmes so often fail to change performance, and why do engaging learning experiences so often fail to produce lasting change?
Drawing on cognitive psychology, learning sciences, and self-determination theory, Richter brings together two bodies of research that are too often treated separately. Motivation gets learners through the door and keeps them engaged; but without disciplined, evidence-informed design, it does not produce lasting change. The session explores how structure, challenge, feedback, purpose, and connection shape both cognitive load and motivation quality, and equips participants with a set of design principles they can apply straight away.
Tickets for IDTX: Evidence Informed Practice are available now on the IDTX webiste. Places are strictly limited, so early booking is strongly advised.
