dare2share, BT’s intranet based social learning initiative, in the spotlight
BT’s dare2share initiative has proved to be a successful ‘How To’ video forum within the company. It is a great example of how to engage your workforce using both social learning and technology. Iain Napier, BT’s Learning Technology Consultant, will be talking about how to encourage this kind of knowledge sharing using social media, when he addresses the Charity Learning Conference on 15 September, London. As part of his presentation, he’ll also be talking about how teams can take advantage of other social media technologies to support learning.
With dare2share, BT created a new learning environment where staff posted video podcasts they had made themselves onto an internal BT forum. The project was a huge success, with staff demonstrating how they tackle real issues.
Iain Napier, BT’s Learning Technologies Consultant, will be explaining how the dare2share project has evolved, as part of his presentation to the Charity Learning Conference on 15 September, London. He’ll be talking about the value of sharing knowledge and experience, particularly through informal learning and social media, and the benefits of encouraging communication to move away from ‘closed’ methods like email towards more open forums.
Martin Baker, founder and CEO of The Charity Learning Consortium, said he was looking forward to hearing how the dare2share project had progressed:“These kind of creative initiatives are incredibly exciting and a great example for charities to emulate. I think that Iain will really inspire our members, and give them some valuable ideas to put into action when they get back to the workplace.”
Iain Napier commented:“dare2share was the start of a social learning journey for BT. We have a number of technologies we are starting to use that I think hold a lot of promise for both employees and learning teams. I hope to show some of that in my session.”
Iain has worked for BT for 10 years, many of those he has spent implementing technologies to support learning.
The 1st Charity Learning Conference has been designed to both celebrate L&D in the Third Sector and inspire members of the Consortium in the invaluable work that they do. The event is exclusively for the 100 charities which are members.
The exciting conference line-up includes a workshop with creativity and innovation specialist Nigel Paine and the event is being steered by renowned eLearning expert Clive Shepherd as the chairman. Laura Overton, the MD of Towards Maturity, will be leading an interactive discussion and revealing early highlights of her latest study into the effective use of learning technologies.
