Learning technology firm opens Leeds office
Learning technology firm Webanywhere has relocated its head office to central Leeds, creating a number of new jobs and continuing the company’s ambitious plans for expansion.
The ICT business, founded by Managing Director Sean Gilligan in August 2003, has grown from humble beginnings as a school website design company based in Keighley, West Yorkshire, to a multinational organisation with offices in Katowice in Poland and Philadelphia in the United States - working with over 4,000 customers to provide e-learning solutions such as virtual learning platforms and cloud computing.
An opening ceremony was held at the company’s new HQ at City Exchange, part of the Trinity shopping and business complex, on Friday 5th September. It was attended by the Lord Mayor of Leeds Councillor David Congreve, Leeds City Council CEO Tom Riordan, and Ian McMillan, the poet and broadcaster, who had been judging a national school poetry competition on behalf of Webanywhere.
Speaking at the opening event, Sean Gilligan said: “I’m delighted to have chosen Leeds as the location for the new Webanywhere UK office. This is a milestone in our journey to growth. I feel very passionately about unemployment and underemployment, particularly amongst young people. We’re now in the centre of Leeds, in a fantastic office space, and my vision is to fill it with vibrancy and well-paid, skilled technology jobs in the future.”
Leeds City Council CEO Tom Riordan said: “This is great news for the city. I’m delighted that a company with firm Yorkshire connections has chosen to come here. The move is a reflection of the strong position Leeds enjoys as a digital creative centre. I wish Sean and Webanywhere every success.”
Founded in 2003 as a learning technology company providing solutions to the education sector, Webanywhere has diversified to support lifelong learning across the public, private and third sectors. Webanywhere now employ over 150 staff, and have operational bases in the UK, US and Poland.
