Vivid Learning Systems will be presenting at ASTD 2012 International Conference & Expo in Denver, Colorado on Tuesday May 8, 2012 at 1:45PM local time. The presentation, “Training to the Rescue: ESF-12’s Responder Training Program” will explore how the ESF-12 responder training was transitioned from 100% classroom delivery to an innovative blended learning approach which saved more than $200,000 in the first year alone.

Presentation Overview

The U.S. Department of Energy’s ESF-12 responders are required to take annual refresher training to keep them up-to-date on the latest regulations and policies so they are able to effectively respond to an emergency disaster at a moment’s notice. When responding to natural disasters, effective training is essential to ensure employee safety.  But in today’s era of ever shrinking budgets and ever increasing demands on staff time, face-to-face training is not always an option.

Historically, ESF-12 responder training consisted of traditional classroom training and a simulated response exercise, which took place over three days where responders flew into a central location from across the country. Together with Vivid Learning Systems, the ESF-12 training team developed an innovative blended learning solution; one which used cutting edge technology to create a virtual simulated response scenario for responders to participate, as well as take online training modules from any location via the web.
