City of Bristol College is working with online learning provider, Virtual College, to enhance its students’ digital learning experience.

The college will have unlimited access for its students to a huge variety of over 50 online courses from Virtual College covering a diverse choice of subjects ranging from ‘Time  Management’ to ‘Effective Job Search’ and ‘Managing your Professional Digital Profile.’

City of Bristol College is one of the largest further and higher education colleges in the UK, catering for learners of all ages and backgrounds. The online learning resources will provide around eleven hours of employability training to help students progress into, or develop within, the working environment and will be delivered as part of a blended learning solution which will include face to face training in specific subject areas.

Enable, Virtual College’s cloud-based learning management system, will be used by City of Bristol College’s Learning Leaders and Study Coaches to manage the online training delivery to students, and provide easy tracking and reporting of learners’ progress.

The Further Education Learning Technology Action Group (FELTAG) report, convened by the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS), reviewed how new technologies can benefit learners, employers and the UK economy and made specific recommendations about how technology can be used to develop learners’ employability skills. Many colleges and providers have embraced the FELTAG agenda and are now working towards making its recommendations a reality.

Rob Bishop, Director of Management Information Systems, was instrumental in the selection of Virtual College as an online learning provider to City of Bristol College.

Rob commented: “Our students come to us to gain qualifications and develop skills for employment, university or independent living and we are committed to creating an environment that allows them to do that.

“Resources available from Virtual College will enable our students to build on the skills acquired at our College and extend their learning beyond the classroom to continue developing their professional standards to help them realise career aspirations and become active members of the society.

“We are pleased about working with Virtual College and enabling our students to benefit from this exciting resource.”
