Virtual College Reveals Winners at the Lean Healthcare Academy Awards “Entirely timely and hugely inspirational” said Roy Lilley
Virtual College, based in Ilkley, have revealed the winners of ‘Best Lean Healthcare Practice’ at the company’s largest Lean Healthcare Academy Conference and Awards Event to date and a high profile event in the healthcare calendar, hosted at the Marriott Hotel in Leeds on Thursday 7th February.
In total 24 finalists exhibited their projects , presented in front of over 200 healthcare professionals and then awaited the results at an evening awards dinner, hosted by guest speaker and healthcare broadcaster Roy Lilley. In all nine awards were presented, all of which were in recognition of excellent service improvements and enhanced efficiencies, carried out by healthcare organisations across the country.
Leading authority on Healthcare Issues Roy Lilley, said of the conference, “The Lean Healthcare Academy event this year was held the day after the Francis report, so coming here and seeing all this fantastic best practice is a great tonic. When we think of Lean we think of big car factories but it is simply about doing things better where you work and everyone can improve their practice. It’s the aggregation of minor gains and putting them all together to get a huge big win. It’s entirely timely to be here and hugely inspirational.”

The ‘Best Impact on Patient Experience Award’ went to the Southern Health & Social Care Trust (based in Ireland).
Airedale NHS Foundation Trust won the ‘Sustained Improvement Award’
Krsihakumar Nair from Bradford District Care Trust won the ‘Lean Champion Award’.
Central Manchester University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust won the ‘Productive Series Award – England’.
Ireland’s Health Services Executive won the ‘Productive Series International Award’.
Pan Birmingham Cancer Network won the ‘Embracing Technology Award’.
The ‘Sharing Best Practice Award’ went to Royal Surrey County Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.
The ‘Improving Service through Training and Development Award’ went to Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust
The special final award – ‘People’s Choice’ - voted on by all delegates during the days’ conference went to the South Tyneside NHS Foundation Trust.
This was the 5th Lean Healthcare Academy Annual Conference and Awards event, now an established event on the healthcare calendar. The event, which has grown in size and attendance each year, has been created for healthcare delegates to network, share best practice and to celebrate with those who have adopted and sustained lean working principles, a philosophy of continuous improvement at every level.
