There are 800,000 people with dementia in the UK, and this number is set to rise to one million by 2021. Dementia Awareness Week, running from 19th-25th May, aims to promote awareness and understanding of this challenging condition.

The Healthcare e-Academy, a division of Virtual College, one of the UK’s leading online training providers, is supporting Dementia Awareness Week by promoting an online training course to help both family and professional carers and sufferers from this condition.

The engaging and interactive online Dementia Awareness training course is appropriate to any individual or organisation wanting to raise their understanding of what it is like to live with dementia and learn simple techniques on how to support people with the illness.

Easy to access via the Internet, the training course has around 90 minutes of learning material but can be undertaken at a pace to suit each individual learner.

This resource supports a national initiative to create a more Dementia Friendly Society driven by David Cameron’s Challenge on Dementia, the Alzheimer’s Society and the Dementia Action Alliance.

In readiness for the launch of the Dementia Friendly Communities Programme in September of this year, Virtual College is encouraging widespread training and awareness progress tracking via its online learning management system.
