Virtual College enables Jarvis Training Management to benefit from online resources to enhance apprentice induction
To help improve the quality and efficiency of foundation level learning, Jarvis Training Management now uses online learning material from Virtual College’s Apprenticeship e-Academy.
Regardless of their apprenticeship, each student must go through a prescribed foundation level of learning as part of their induction.
Joan Walker, Assessor and Internal Verifier at Jarvis Training Management said:” Previously we delivered this in a traditional face to face setting which was a huge use of assessor resources.”
“Over a day was spent on the induction process which, quite frankly, could be quite boring for the apprentices and trainer.”
Liam Prendergast, commercial manager of the Apprenticeship e-Academy, explained: ”We have developed a series of online learning materials covering induction, equality and diversity, health and safety, learner charter, employee rights and responsibilities and personal learning and thinking skills.”
“Each of the modules ends with an online test and is intended to help engage with the learner.”
Joan Walker commented:” The resources work brilliantly with the 16-18 year olds we have on-site for induction, helping to stimulate group discussions.”
“It is also much easier to motivate remote learners to work through these resources than leaving them with paper based materials.”
“Not only does it reduce the assessor resources required, it also improves the quality of delivery and allows the assessor to devote more time to individual students.”
