Virtual College, a leading provider of e-learning in the UK with over 700,000 learners has worked with Lincoln Integrated Domestic Abuse Services (LIDAS) to develop a cross platform smartphone app aimed at providing useful information for victims of Domestic Abuse.

The app contains information and advice for both male and female victims in an easy to understand and accessible format.

Although a commonly used phrase, the extent to which 'Domestic Abuse' affects a large percentage of the population is largely not understood. For every three victims of domestic abuse, two will be female and one will be male, every 3 days a woman will be killed by her partner and every 17 days a man will be killed by his.

The app gives practical support to victims showing how to recognise the signs of abuse either in their own relationship or in someone close to them; it shows how to keep safe while living with an abuser and what to do once you've left. It also provides contact details for a raft of local and national support agencies.

Julie Rimington, Manager of LIDAS said "We are delighted to be working with Virtual College to develop this and future apps. My hope is that it enables victims of domestic abuse to get the vital information and help they need to stay safe".

Lincoln Integrated Domestic Abuse Services (LIDAS) exists for the benefit of women, men and children who experience abuse within a domestic and / or intimate relationship.

LIDAS offers many services including outreach, family support and Independent Domestic Violence Advisers, together with emergency temporary accommodation and a 24 hour Helpline for the county of Lincolnshire.

More about LIDAS is available at www.lidas.co.uk

The app is the first in a series and is due to be released in April on both Apple and Android devices.
