Insights for modernising leadership development

London, UKLearning NewsTowards Maturity

Early insights from Towards Maturity’s Leadership study have been published exploring what successful organisations are doing to prepare leaders and managers.

“Developing the skills of leaders and managers to work in an ever-changing, technology-enabled, virtual world is a constant challenge. How can we build the leadership skills today to prepare organisations for success tomorrow?” asks Towards Maturity’s Laura Overton.

“2,200 line managers and senior leaders contributed evidence in the learning landscape study in 2014, ‘The Learner Voice’ and revealed that classroom courses are seen as very useful by only 15% of senior leaders and 21% of line managers. It’s clear that we need to rethink how leaders are developed.”

“Our study into modernising leadership training explores how learning innovation can impact leadership development. It looks at the drivers, barriers, benefits and trends to understand what is working well and what is not.”

The independent study into leadership development is being carried out by Towards Maturity, a not-for-profit benchmarking practice, and builds on its benchmark research over the last 11 years with 3,500 organisations and 15,000 learners.

Early insights from the study so far have been published, along with a number of observations to challenge our thinking. They are freely available for download: 9 Fresh Insights for Leadership Development Training.

“Leadership development needs to change. The Towards Maturity Leadership study is gathering the evidence base from L&D professionals and leaders in the workplace to help to make that change,” added Laura Overton.

Those responsible for developing leaders and managers in business may take part in the Towards Maturity Leadership study. The full results will be released by the end of April.
