Northern Care Alliance and Think Learning scooped Best Use of Blended Learning at the 2023 Totara Awards.

As we headed into day one of Learning Technologies 2023, Think Learning and the Northern Care Alliance NHS Foundation Trust (NCA) were awarded the prize for the Best Use of Blended Learning , by Totara.

The prize highlighted the impact NCA has made on their employees as they embark on a huge culture change.

Serving the health and care needs of 1.2 million people across Greater Manchester with 21,000 employees, NCA is one of the largest and most influential healthcare organisations in the UK.

The team is committed to leadership at all levels of the organisation and prioritise leadership skills alongside clinical skills.

The Trust has faced significant cultural challenges in recent times, most significantly stemming from post-covid impacts.

To bring about real change to organisational leadership culture at all levels, the team wanted to create a stronger ecosystem as part of their culture change.

To shift from ‘hero leaders’ to high performing teams, NCA recognised the need to define leader responsibilities and behaviours, and cascade these to all their leaders and managers through a high-impact culture change programme called the Accelerated Leadership Development Programme (ALDP).

With an ambitious, initial target of educating 4,000 colleagues, they needed to create a solution that would support their mission and achieve results at scale and pace.

The NCA Talent & Organisational Development Team have a huge amount of experience in creating effective culture change and education programmes. The Leadership Programme and corresponding tools were designed and co-created through stakeholder engagement and robust needs analysis.

They integrated Totara’s powerful TXP toolkit and Think Learning’s consultative partnership approach to create and test a tailored technology solution, called the Virtual Campus.

The programme includes digital enrichment of face-to-face learning, self-directed learner controls, and high levels of learner engagement.

Sarah Richards, Talent and Organisational Development Lead at NCA, said “It’s fantastic to win this award with our partners at Think Learning. We have been supported by their team of experts to create a user-centric platform that can help create a shared community of learning which supports our learning objectives and bring about culture change.

“A huge thank you to the team at Totara for selecting us to win this award. It’s a great and tangible accolade that commemorates the work that’s gone into this project and highlights what progress we have made to achieve our goal.”
