The Performance Solution reponds to growing demand for coach supervisors

Learning NewsThe Performance Solution

Recently there has been dramatic growth in the demand for coach supervisors caused by a huge growth in the number of coaches. The CIPD's 2006 learning and development survey showed that nearly 8 in 10 respondents were using coaching activities in one form or another and a similar number were seeking to develop an organisational culture characterised by coaching to support improved performance (www.cipd.co.uk).

Being in regular supervision is an indicator of a coach's commitment to their continuing professional development and best practice. It proves to clients that a coach is ethical, informed and reflective and promotes professionalism within the coaching field. For the independent coach and in house coach, supervision is fast becoming a compulsory part of their continuing professional development. According to surveys by CIPD 88% of organisers of coaching and 86% of coaches believe that coaches should have continuous and regular supervision of their coaching but only 44% of coaches receive regular supervision and 23% of organisations provide coaching supervision. (www.cipd.co.uk).

Until recently there have been few providers offering accreditation for coach supervisors. The CIPD survey found that 13% of Organisations do not have supervision because they cannot find a supervisor. The Performance Solution has just launched a Coach Supervision Certificate, in recognition of the demand for coach supervisors, which is aimed at experienced coaches, mentors and consultants who wish to develop their knowledge and skills in the practice of coach supervision. The certificate is which is held over 2 X 2 day modules starting in May can be used towards an MA in Coach Supervision awarded by the University of Kingston.
