Saffron Interactive, one of Europe's leading e-learning, mobile and blended learning companies, is delighted to announce the launch of a sub-surface fire awareness e-learning course for Heathrow Express.

This is the first collaboration between Saffron and Heathrow Express, the fastest rail link from London to Heathrow Airport, and represents an important, progressive development in Heathrow Express' use of technology in learning.

The 45 minute sub-surface fire awareness course demonstrates the commitment of Heathrow Express to the safety of its passengers and staff. The training not only ensures that the company meets its health and safety obligations, but also increases learners' awareness of the risks of fire and their ability to respond appropriately, whilst promoting the importance of track safety.

Realistic scenarios set in various areas of the Heathrow Express site reinforce the link between the training and the realities of the learners' day to day work, while relevant dilemmas illustrate to the learners that being able to raise the alarm in the event of an emergency in the right way will save lives. Video, 3D graphics and photographs taken from the Heathrow Express sub-surface sites further ensure that the learners are engaged and immersed in the training experience.

The course is aimed towards business partners and second tier suppliers of Heathrow Express, totaling 700 people in a range of roles including cleaners and engineers, many of whom speak English as a second language. Heathrow Express has received very positive feedback since the roll out of the training, with both learners and stakeholders embracing e-learning as the way forward. [

Kim George, who designed the training, remarks on how interesting the course was to develop: "It was a real working partnership with Heathrow Express and I was given the valuable opportunity to visit the sub-surface sites and learn first hand why fire awareness is so crucial for the learners. As a result, the training is based on real life experiences and emphasises the key life or death messages."

Heathrow Express' Learning and Development Manager Chris Knapp says "Within a week of launch, the elearning had already generated a real buzz across the business and we witnessed learning taking place out of office hours and at weekends, from various locations within the business - saving everyone time and expense. I'm looking forward to seeing the projected returns on investment over the five year plan for this training"
