QA-IQ expands Trainer Development Academy: professional expertise meets training skills
QA-IQ is expanding its market leading trainer development programme with the launch of an intensive Academy for technical and business professionals who wish to join the training industry. The instructors will help to provide training courses that deliver a business-focused experience and real-world content in addition to practical skills.
Feedback from customers of QA-IQ reinforces the value of instructors who have real-world experience to back up their technical knowledge, and can provide learners with up-to-date examples of skills application in a business context.
Managing Director of QA-IQ, John Kauffman, explains; “Our customers are looking to us to lead the way on providing the skills their teams need to be effective in today’s business world. As a result we are expanding our trainer development programme to provide a structure for those who excel in their field to pass their skills on to others. Perhaps they have had some experience of coaching within their organisation or developing a team, and would like to make this a long-term career change. We will provide them with the help and support they need to translate their technical skills into becoming an inspirational instructor.
“We already have in place strong personal and professional development for our trainers, with a rigorous Institute of IT Training-certified programme, and we’re adding to this a fast-track conversion course for those joining us from business or technical roles. The Academy focuses on developing teaching skills and course development methodologies, and includes learning from experienced instructors in the classroom. This will have people confidently teaching a supervised class in a short period of time, and by providing constant mentoring we can ensure that they will be sharing their skills in the most effective way possible.”
QA-IQ Principal Technologist and BCS Trainer of the Year 2006, Dave Britt, became an instructor following a career in network engineering in the public sector; “I enjoyed working on technical projects but felt that I could do more. Moving into teaching meant that I could share my experience with a wide range of people – it challenges you to develop as well because each week you’ll get a new viewpoint from the people on the course. As part of my work at QA-IQ I design and develop bespoke programmes for our customers, as well as creating new courses for our public schedule, so I get the chance to work with new technologies at their earliest stages, which is always exciting.”
