The Waste Management Industry Training and Advisory Board partners with Pearson VUE to enable UK-wide test delivery via computer-based testing

The Waste Management Industry Training and Advisory Board (WAMITAB) has signed an exclusive five-year contract with Pearson VUE to deliver the Continuing Competence element of its Operator Competence Scheme via computer-based testing.

WAMITAB is the awarding organisation for the waste management industry in England, Wales and Northern Ireland and is a joint awarding body for qualifications in Scotland. Established in 1989, WAMITAB’s role is to determine and advise on policies, standards of education, qualifications and training for all employees within the industry.

A key factor in choosing Pearson VUE was its ability to deliver assessment from over 150 test centres located throughout the UK, helping WAMITAB to improve the candidate’s test experience and to increase its capacity to deliver the tests.

The test will be re-launched in March 2011 when candidates will be tested on their generic and activity-specific competencies. The results will enable candidates to comply with this aspect of the Operator Competence Scheme and understand their strengths and weaknesses in these areas.

Dr. Lawrence Strong, Director General of WAMITAB, said:
“We chose Pearson VUE to deliver our Continuing Competence Scheme based on its ability to ensure flexible item types. The utilisation of its extensive UK network of test centres will allow us to increase accessibility and awareness of the Continuing Competence certification.”

Suzana Lopes, Pearson VUE, VP EMEA Sales and Marketing, added:
“We are pleased to deliver computer-based testing on behalf of the Waste Management Industry Training and Advisory Board to help maintain technical competence and to assist individuals with their continual learning and development within the industry. We look forward to meeting the future needs of WAMITAB and its certification.”
