Becoming a Performing Organisation: Don't merely impact knowledge, ensure workplace performance

Den Bosch, NLLearning NewsOntuitive

Bob Mosher, Chief Learning & Strategy Evangelist at LearningGuide Solutions, is working with L&D professionals to assist them in moving their organisations beyond learning and to focus more on performance.

"Many of the organisations I've worked with were still mired in traditional approaches to instruction and supporting their learners" said Mosher. In challenging organisations to become a performimg organsiation Mosher offers a few approaches to consider:

- Lead with a performance strategy, not a learning strategy
- Build learning tools that both support and teach
- Foster understanding of performance strategy with front-line managers

Mosher concludes "we are in the performance business, not the knowledge-gain business. The learning leaders who understand the difference are the ones who will succeed", as a colleague of mine always says, "If our efforts aren't ultimately about improving performance, why are we putting people through any of this in the first place".

Bob Mosher has produced an indepth feature in CLO Magazine about the challenges faced by L&D professionals in driving a performance culture titled Becoming a Performing Organisation. To find out more read the full article: http://www.nxtbook.com/nxtbooks/mediatec/clo0910/#/16
