"One of the main benefits of LearningGuide is that it is a low maintenance support platform, which allows control of published information and provides users with a one-stop-shop for policy and procedural information. It facilitates the increase of productivity, and is particularly useful to individuals who are new to the Movex system", says Darren Owen, Training and LearningGuide Manager of Hewden Stuart PLC, the UK's largest and most diverse specialist in equipment rental in the construction industry.

Developing effective training to support a major investment of £14 million in its new Lawson M3 Enterprise Management System (Movex) was critical to the company. Over 1500 users needed to be trained. The roll out of the system, Project Horizon, presented a real challenge to the whole of the Hewden business. New processes, day-to-day tasks and procedures had to be introduced to all staff, including senior management, office workers and mechanics, of which many were geographically dispersed all across the UK and even new to pc's.

Quick adoption and seamless operation of the system was imperative. Hewden chose the Electronic Performance Support System (EPSS) LearningGuide to suit and support different learning styles. LearningGuide enabled the deployment of a lot of instructional content to reach a large number of users across the entire geographical area. Time and money were saved, not only during the classroom training phase, but also in reduced cost and time spent on helpdesk calls. In addition, fewer mistakes are made, employee autonomy increased, as well as their quality of work.

"The best thing about LearningGuide is that it delivered a lot of concise, well structured content to a lot of people in a lot of places. In addition, it is relatively inexpensive to keep up to date", says Darren. He and Christine Hardy, Training & Development Manager at Finning Group UK, Hewden's parent company, carried the overall responsibility for the training. With them, Hewden got rewarded for its efforts by winning the prestigious 'Excellence in Training Award 2007' from Hire Association Europe (HAE). The award celebrates best practice in all areas of the hire industry across Europe.
