Northgate Training Activities is launching its newest experiential team activity at Learning & Skills 2015. A resource for trainers to use during team building or leadership courses, Mayhem! demonstrates the benefits of cooperative teamwork and effective leadership especially when dealing with shared resources.

Northgate is launching its newest product: a brand-new experiential activity called Mayhem! at Learning and Skills 2015, on 28-29 January 2015. From the reviews from Trainers who have used it, it certainly lives up to its name creating chaos and dismay in a very short time, achieving its aim of mirroring what can happen in the workplace.

Mayhem! is an activity for four teams and its key objective is to allow delegates to demonstrate teamwork and leadership. In particular it focuses on whether teams can work cooperatively as well as tackle a tricky task with energy and logic.

In this 35 minute activity, each team chooses a leader and those leaders receive a Brief informing them of the task ahead. Each leader has a different task and to complete it they must use shared resources (a pile of 300 circular playing cards).

Chris Chin, a trainer from Curious Learning, said about Northgate’s newest activity when he used it:

"Mayhem! went down a treat and did everything I hoped it would do. Bearing in mind this was a team building event, here's what happened: one team decided to sidle up to the table where the cards were: other teams immediately got suspicious and I heard comments such as "what are they doing?" and "watch them carefully!". When the time came to work with the cards, this team snatched them all up and started sorting through them. This caused, as you might imagine, bedlam, mayhem, screams of derision, "what the hell are you guys doing? We need to collaborate," - which all fell on deaf ears. Team leaders were desperately trying to negotiate, but people soon realised that team leaders had no control. Other teams decided to form commando teams and started snatching cards! Then I heard the ultimate comment: "As much as I love to collaborate, it's more important that we hurt them!". It was lots of fun debriefing and learning - it definitely did what it said on the tin."

In addition to Mayhem! Northgate will be launching two other brand new activities at Learning & Skills 2015. One is an introduction to leadership as a topic and the other is a fun, teambuilding activity with a construction element. These activities and other selected titles from Northgate’s range of over 70 titles will be on display at the exhibition.
