Tata Interactive Systems (TIS), recently chosen by British Airways (BA) as one of only three preferred suppliers of custom built e-learning materials for its 50,000 or so staff, has examples of its latest custom built e-learning courseware on show (on Stand E20) at the e-learning London conference and exhibition at the Business Design Centre, Islington, on 4th and 5th June.

TIS, which has one of the world's largest teams for the design and development of custom-built e-learning solutions, has recently won contracts not only from BA but also from a government-sponsored organisation in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

At the e-learning London exhibition, TIS will have on show a selection of its latest, ground-breaking programs - such as its 'Simulation Based Learning Objects' (SimBLs), produced in association with the University of Phoenix in Arizona, USA, which now cover topics including nursing and law as well as finance, operations, marketing, human resources and economics.

TIS will also be revealing its 'a2>' process that allows the 'intelligent' conversion of existing - 'legacy' - learning materials into e-learning. The 'a2>' process can convert materials to XML that have been developed in a wide range of formats, including Quark, PDF, HTML, Word document, PageMaker and PowerPoint.

The company recently expanded its capacity to develop e-learning materials in the UK as well as at its headquarters in Mumbai, India, by appointing Jackie Barnett as its UK lead instructional designer. Barnett joined TIS from VEGA Group plc, where she was a consultant specialising in course design.

Sambit Mohapatra, vice president of TIS in the UK, Europe and Middle East, commented: "Increasingly, key organisations are choosing TIS to design and develop e-learning materials for their staff. We are developing these materials in the manner that's most convenient for our clients - from offshore to on the client's site.

"From a buyers' point of view, it's important to combine the highest quality e-learning materials with the most competent developers of e-learning," he added.

Elaine Wilson, BA's e-learning manager, commented: "We are particularly impressed by TIS's commitment to quality - as shown by their possession of a number of internationally recognised quality marks and their commitment to 'Six Sigma' quality improvement techniques. Other key factors in BA choosing TIS as one of its preferred suppliers are TIS's ability to produce high quality e-learning materials to demanding deadlines and tight budgets, as well as their commitment to catering for the needs of their customers.

"Key decision factors were TIS's responsiveness to our particular challenges and customer feedback, which gave us confidence in TIS's ability to deliver cost-effective, quality products."
