National Express transforms learning culture, engaging remote employees across UK with multi-device Totara LMS

The UK’s largest coach travel network, National Express, teamed up with Totara LMS Platinum partner, Mind Click, to implement their first learning management system, supporting dispersed learners across the nation. Their new Totara LMS supports bring your own device (BYOD), modernising the organisation’s training delivery and transforming their traditional learning culture.

Prior to the implementation of Totara LMS National Express’ training delivery was complex, with a variety of content scattered in different locations and displayed in both digital and paper-based formats. Without an LMS to track learner progress on the road, it proved difficult for the organisation to consistently train remote and time-poor learners such as coach drivers. Due to this a requirement for a digital solution to host content, development reviews and e-learning was defined.

Totara LMS Platinum partners, Mind Click, were selected to implement their first ever LMS. James Rutter, Head of Learning and Development at National Express, comments on why:

“We looked around a few different suppliers and Mind Click turned out to be the best value for money. We also wanted a supplier that we could really partner with and build a relationship with, and we instantly got along with the team at Mind Click.”

Totara LMS’ powerful functionality, customisable user interface and flexibility for delivery on mobile devices were the key features that appealed to National Express. The ability to support BYOD was also demanded and has allowed remote learners at the organisation to complete performance reviews and e-learning on the road, on their own devices, saving time that would have previously taken them away from their daily operations. James expands on the advantages of the new LMS:

“A key benefit for us is that our learners can access the system on multiple devices; our drivers out on the road can actually now complete training and development reviews in their own time and on their own mobile devices, which has been really positive for us.”

The implementation of the new LMS has seen a positive impact on the employees at National Express. They’ve saved time by streamlining resources in one place as well as organising and modernising their approach to training delivery. Totara LMS has contributed to transforming a culture at the organisation; employees are happy to take part in training in their own time and on their own devices too. The L&D team at National Express has already got a majority of coach drivers on-board using the learning platform which has exceeded expectations and they now have plans in place to increase this to 100%.
