The Venues Collection launches next phase of Meetings for Change: Carbon Labelling
The Venues Collection has announced the introduction of Carbon Labelling across all their menus. This ground breaking initiative will put valuable information into the hands of L&D event organisers and empower them to make informed decisions when choosing the food to be served at their training events.
The Venues Collection will be at Learning Live to showcase how they can help trainers and tutors to create more sustainable training courses. The leading training venue group comprises of seven dedicated training and conference centres across the UK. They will be at the show to promote their ‘Meetings for Change’ initiative and the introduction of Carbon Labelling across all their menus.
The Meetings for Change initiative is a five-point charter focussing on sustainable food options and includes a day delegate rate and a 24-hour delegate rate. Options include ethically sourced tea and coffee served with Red Tractor Assured milk; buffet lunch, dinner and breakfast options that prioritise British seasonal ingredients, minimal food waste and plant-forward options; hydration stations that use fruit and vegetable peelings to flavour the water to remove single-use plastics and reduce food waste. They also have a sustainable approach to the use of stationary, ‘take what you like, but only take what you need’
Carbon labelling is a ground breaking initiative that is putting valuable information into the hands of trainers and tutors which then empowers them to make informed decisions when choosing the food to be served at their courses.
Jo Austin, Sales Director, The Venues Collection said: “Sustainability is of the upmost importance to us and to our clients. Trainers need easy and accessible ways to ensure that their courses are as sustainable as possible; Sustainability anxiety is very real, so we are helping to overcome this by arming trainers with information. Knowing the impact that a meal has on the climate gives our clients more ownership and control over what they are choosing and the total impact their course will have on the climate. By partnering with The Venues Collection and choosing our Meetings for Change DDR, or 24hour package trainers can be assured that their course will be as sustainable as possible.
“Sustainability is important to delegates and so we encourage trainers to share this information and the actions they have taken to create sustainable courses. We want to make it easy for our customers to make the right choices. Simply choose your venue or partner well.”
The Venues Collection is working with Klimato; a third-party business that tracks global food sourcing and movement to create up to date carbon footprint information about ingredients of a dish. In the food industry climate labels are based on calculations of the emissions of greenhouse gases presented as kg carbon dioxide equivalents (kg CO2e).
