Paul Chapman – one in a thousand!
At e-Learning Manchester 2002, the Institute of IT Training announced that Certified e-Learning Professional booking number 1,000 was actually made by Paul Chapman of Vega Group Plc, who is currently working towards the CeLP e-Learning Consultant Certificate and the Diploma in e-Learning.
Paul has been a training professional for over fifteen years and is both a member of the Institute of IT Training and an associate of the Chartered Institute of Personnel & Development.
Despite extensive experience, Paul felt that the comprehensive curriculum offered by the CeLP programme would provide him with a broader perspective as an e-Learning professional. "No-one involved in this field can afford to be complacent about Continual Professional Development", he commented. "e-Learning tools, technologies and processes are continually evolving. Because all of these are inter-linked and each has an impact of quality you simply cannot afford to lose touch."
"It is also great to have the opportunity to work towards a recognised qualification," Paul conceded. "From both the personal and professional perspective I do expect to benefit from the added credibility and gravitas associated with becoming a Certified e-Learning Professional."
Paul’s employer evidently places a premium on developing the skills of their personnel. Martin Blomley, a Director of VEGA Group PLC commented: "Our people and their individual skills and expertise are the greatest assets we have, so it makes good sense to invest in their further development and expansion. Participation in the CeLP programme keeps us in touch and at the front of the fast developing world of e-learning."
Following an initial career in surveying, Paul moved into Building Society branch management and became a Training Manager responsible for the design, delivery and implementation of training solutions. In 1999 following a highly successful project involving the use of Computer Based Training (CBT) to provide Cashier Training at the Norwich & Peterborough Building Society, Paul decided to specialise in the field of technology enabled learning. He left the N&P to join what is now a subsidiary of VEGA Group PLC as an Educational Design Consultant.
Since joining VEGA Group, Paul has worked on major financial sector e-Learning projects with clients like Prudential, American Express, Lloyds TSB, Royal and Sun Alliance and Barclays Bank.
CeLP Programme Director Clive Shepherd welcomed Paul’s enrolment as booking number one thousand: "The success of CeLP is not only a just reward for the team that spent thousands of hours designing and developing the programme over the past 18 months - it also indicates how enthusiastic trainers are to upgrade their skills, so that they can play a full part in the ongoing development of e-Learning."
In addition to VEGA Group PLC, organisations that have enrolled students include Prudential, Open University, Corporation of London, Shell, Spring, KPMG, Pearson Education, University of Wolverhampton, Learning Skills Council, Clerical Medical, UfI, Royal London Mutual Insurance and Bacon & Woodrow.
Independent Industry commentator Vaughan Waller, Chairman of The e-Learning Network greeted the success of the CeLP initiative with enthusiasm. "This development indicates that the UK e-Learning industry is finally maturing. The Government is launching major initiatives such as the new e-Learning Task Force and people are no longer seeing e-Learning as a fad, but as a viable career option."
end.
