Kineo Jazz presents the Charlotte Glasson Band
Kineo is delighted to announce that the Charlotte Glasson Band will be performing at the next Kineo Jazz event at The Basement in Brighton on 16th December 2011.
The Charlotte Glasson Band won ‘Best Newcomer Award at The 2009 Marlborough Jazz Festival. Sax player Charlotte Glasson leads a five-piece instrumental band (with tuba instead of bass) who play a particularly uplifting blend of reggae, various jazz styles, klezmer and Latino.

The band won ‘Best Newcomer Award at The 2009 Marlborough Jazz Festival,’ and have been featured in the new lottery funded film ‘Jazz Live,’ about the London Jazz Scene. They have played at Ealing Festival, Wexford, Ireland, North Devon Festival, Swanage Jazz Festival, Oxford Jazz Festival, and The Brighton Festival.
Charlotte Glasson started playing violin as a kid, then as she was in her teens started to play saxophone, and has never looked back. She writes music to try and combine new sounds together taken from her love of lots of different styles of music, to create an uplifting new jazz sound. She has performed all over the world including a sell out run with ‘The Lost and Found Orchestra’ at Sydney Opera House, ‘Bangkok International Jazz Festival’ with Claire Martin Band, and ‘Kilkenny Latin Festival’ with Latin Jazz Outfit Que Pasa.
Jazz trombonist Mark Bassey has been described as “a superb, witty player” (Dave Gelly); his playing can stretch from the “raucous” (John Fordham) to an “exquisite sound and perfect phrasing” (Brian Blain).
Dave Holdsworth has been a member of and a featured trumpet soloist with many of the most important jazz units in the UK, including the bands/orchestras of Mike Westbrook, Barry Guy, Tony Oxley, Mike Osborne, Chris McGregor, Tim Richards and Liane Carroll.
Jason Henson has been playing the guitar for 20 years and turned professional over a decade ago. He has been hired by many of the country’s finest musicians and has played in many jazz clubs all over England.
Sam Glasson has performed with many bands and musicians including Cubana Bop, Ian Shaw, Alan Barnes, Tina May, the Sue Richardson Quintet and The Lost and Found Orchestra (from the creators of STOMP).
Support will be provided by the Ela Southgate Christmas Quartet. As it's nearly Christmas Ela is going to sing songs from her festive album with musicians Matt Wall on guitar, Robin Watt on saxophone and Dan Sheppard on double bass.
