Jenison has recently organised a further 2 Network Meetings in its successful series. Hosted by the National Trust and the Guinness Trust respectively, the events were designed to give those involved in HR and training the opportunity to learn about the latest developments, to see how the host organisations have successfully implemented elearning and to share and learn from others experiences.

‘How to get buy in, managing the cultural change to online learning and learning from other organisations experience of launching’. These were just some of the objectives for delegates attending the first two network meetings in the series being offered free of charge by Jenison. Hosted by the National Trust and the Guinness Trust, respectively, the first 2 successful events, organised by Jenison, were designed to give those involved in HR and training the opportunity to learn about the latest developments and to share experiences with like minded people.

The meetings enabled delegates to look at how to implement elearning as a blended solution, choosing appropriate learning, the delivery, how to manage the learning environment and marketing the concept.

Joe Quilter, Jenison’s Principal Consultant gave an overview of how the learning sector has evolved, the challenges faced, the need for informal and formal learning and the importance of always considering the learner, at each meeting. The discussions then progressed to “What you should know about creating online training that works”.

Jonathan Noall of The National Trust outlined how they realised an elearning strand to their development strategy could benefit the Trust and the objectives and challenges they considered. Caroline Gray of The National Trust went on to outline how they implementated an organisational wide learning strategy for over 5,000 geographically dispersed staff including a Learning Management System and a range of IT and HR titles. She explained the important change process the organisation has had to go through and how their marketing programme ensured users buy-in for this flexible new way of learning at their desk. She outlined that one of the Trust’s targets for introducing the new learning strategy had been to reduce classroom training for IT by 50%. Caroline was delighted to confirm that this target had not only been met but in fact significantly exceeded with an actual reduction of 75%.

At the second event, Steve Mullings, Training Manager at the Guinness Trust outlined the success of their implementation of an organisational wide learning strategy for over 1,000 staff with a Learning Management System giving access to a range of IT and HR courses. He explained the solution and how the organisation has changed and developed to incorporate the new learning methods. As part of the process, the Guinness Trust have produced a number of their own courses using Jenison’s Perform authoring tool and demonstrating examples of these was extremely helpful to reinforce the concepts discussed.

The highlight of the day for many delegates was the hands-on opportunity to have a go at using Jenison’s rapid authoring tool, Perform, to develop their own course. In a matter of minutes course material was authored and published ready to be presented and the groups were proud to demonstrate their achievements to their fellow delegates.

Delegates felt that the morning session provided a valuable insight into new learning technologies and constructive advice on how to launch the concept and courses. Comments included “it gave a useful flavour of the Perform product,”, “I gained from meeting others and sharing experiences” and “I got lots of hints and tips from the day”. The next Jenison network meeting is being held on 27th June at The Pier in Abingdon. To reserve a place or for more information contact Jenison.
