Training service for private dental practices

Learning NewsEnterprise Study Ltd

Medical & Dental Training has launched a training service for private dental practices using ESP.

Medical & Dental Training, a leading teaching agency for dental post-graduates, is extending its courses into the private sector using Enterprise Study's ESP training business administration system.

Medical & Dental Training Ltd is expanding into the private sector dentistry skills market, providing courses for individual dental practitioners.

ESP, the training business administration system, will provide course cataloguing, and on line reservations via Medical & Dental's Web site, client communications and management reporting.

Innovative marketing and technology strategy enables fast route to market.

Medical & Dental Ltd seeks a media publication interested in producing a feature article about its strategy to extend dental teaching into the private practitioners' sector. Representatives from Medical & Dental Ltd and Enterprise Study Ltd are available for interview.

Miss Gillian Skoulding, a business management consultant and Dr Christopher Turner, a specialist in restorative dentistry, formed Medical & Dental Training in 1996. Their aim was to provide high quality "hands-on" courses to enable practitioners and their teams to work more effectively. After successfully delivering section 63* training courses for many post graduate centres, the company is now offering courses to individual practitioners at their own training centre in Cirencester and also at various locations throughout the UK.

The range of courses offered by Medical & Dental Training include management topics such as Benefiting from Audit, and also a range of clinical courses covering areas such as Air Abrasion, Crown and Bridge Work and many others. The courses are practical and 'hands-on' enabling participants to use the skills learned during the programmes directly in their own practice situations to improve patient care. In addition to offering training, the company has also designed and manufactures the Karrident ® range of portable training equipment, to enable hands-on training in clinical dental techniques to be taken anywhere.

The move from Section 63 funded courses to training in the private sector, prompted the directors of the company to look for new ways of promoting courses. The first decision was to design and build a web site so the training schedule could be viewed on line, and bookings taken via the site. It was an important consideration that the web site should offer the facility to capture and hold details of delegates registering on courses, in order to build an effective delegate database, crucial to the success of future course promotion. Miss Gillian Skoulding: "After researching the market of web designers, it became obvious that the ESP option was the most cost-effective solution for Medical & Dental Training Ltd. The ESP platform not only acts as a database for clients, it manages many aspects of training administration and acts as a contact management tool. It also offers the advantage of allowing Medical & Dental Training Ltd to update our own schedule and course outlines without the need for technical assistance. The option to use these facilities is provided on a 'pay as you go' basis, enabling a relatively fast adoption and route to market."

"The alternative to using ESP was to compromise with a basic 'shop-window' Web site, which would not have given Medical & Dental Training Ltd the database or administrative facilities needed, or to spend significant sums on a tailor made solution."

"Enterprise Study has proved to be ideal partners for our programme, enabling Medical & Dental Training Ltd to manage our courses and client engagements very effectively."

* Section 63 are continuing professional education courses organised through Post Graduate Dental Deans.
