DuPont Sustainable Solutions has released Hearing Conservation: Noise Under Control, a new safety training program that helps employees learn how to protect their hearing and manage occupational noise exposure.
According to OSHA’s Occupational Noise Exposure site, about 125,000 employees have suffered “significant, permanent hearing loss” since 2004. In 2009 alone, the Bureau of Labor Statistics reported over 21,000 incidents.
Hearing Conservation: Noise Under Control offers a compelling look at the devastation of long-term hearing loss. It follows two fictional employees, who after years of poor decisions are now suffering from hearing loss. They share how the condition developed, how it affects their work and personal lives, and how they cope with it.
This new safety training DVD also discusses the benefits of hearing conservation at work, basic ear anatomy and how and why noise-induced hearing loss occurs. It identifies symptoms of hearing loss, discusses audiometric testing, including time-weighted averages and baseline audiograms, and explains how a “hierarchy of control” – elimination of hazards, engineering and administrative controls, and personal protective equipment (PPE) – can prevent noise-induced hearing loss.
This timely training parallels efforts by the federal government to address “one of the most prevalent occupational health concerns in the United States over the last 25 years.”
