DuPont Sustainable Solutions has released a new training program, Slips, Trips and Falls: Educate Yourself, to raise awareness among school faculty and staff about the risks of slips, trips and falls and to help them avoid the injuries these mishaps can cause.

Designed specifically for educational facilities, Slips, Trips and Falls: Educate Yourself demonstrates how school employees can improve safety in accident-prone areas in school facilities. It calls particular attention to hazards involving weather conditions; perilous surfaces; footwear; lighting; doorways, entrances, hallways and stairways; ladders; equipment such as computers and audio-visual devices; and lifting . For each of these risk areas, the program examines preventive habits and safety measures, from proper housekeeping and correct ladder use to correct lifting techniques and other simple, yet often neglected practices.

“Many people don’t realize how serious slips, trips and falls can be,” said Sandra Green, Training Solutions sales manager, public sector. “In fact, they are second only to vehicle accidents as the primary cause of accidental death, and, according to the National Safety Council, slips and falls are the leading cause of fatalities in most workplaces and responsible for over 20 percent of disabling injuries.”

By raising awareness, Slips, Trips and Falls: Educate Yourself puts school staff on guard and helps them develop initiatives to address the risks. Vivid re-enactments and role playing reinforce messages and show how costly these incidents can be to individuals and the educational facility.

Slips, Trips and Falls: Educate Yourself is available on DVD and will soon be available in e-learning format. Those interested can preview the program online (preview), or call 800-695-0756 to request a free seven-day DVD preview or to learn more.
