DuPont Sustainable Solutions Introduces "Social Media: Reduce the Risk" Training Course

WILMINGTON, Del., Oct. 8, 2010 - DuPont Sustainable Solutions has released "Social Media: Reduce the Risk," a new training course on DVD to help organizations mitigate potential risks resulting from participation in social media networks.

Developed with the assistance of U.S. law firm McGuireWoods LLP, "Social Media: Reduce the Risk" uses a storyline approach to educate organizations and their employees about reducing risks such as revealing trade secrets and proprietary information, defamation of a company brand, failure to comply with social media policies and codes of conduct, digital harassment and other problems associated with social media interactions. The course can be used to accompany the rollout of an organization's social media policy or as standalone training to heighten awareness. An interactive e-learning version will be available in the near future.

"Compliance and ethics professionals are apprehensive about social media," said Matthew J. McGonegle, manager of ethics and compliance and global compliance officer - DuPont Sustainable Solutions. "The feeling is that the social media landscape is uncharted territory where many individuals and organizations are learning as they go. It's an environment that can present significant risks. With this new training course we are seeking to minimize the risk through education and building awareness."

"Social Media: Reduce the Risk" is the latest addition to a series of ethics and compliance courseware, available in DVD and e-learning formats, launched earlier this year. Other courses in the series cover a variety of topics including the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, antitrust regulation, export control, records management and data security. Courseware in development includes changing wage and hour regulation, responsible business communication and conflicts of interest.

"These courses help organizations not only mitigate compliance risks but also reinforce sustainable ethics messages across their organizations. They reflect real world experience and draw upon the expertise of key thought leaders in the areas of ethics and compliance," McGonegle said.
